CLEANING
- Use a mixture of alcohol and water 60:40 (do not use nitro cleaners).
- Use suitable cleaning paper, cleaning cloths or wipes.
- Don't skimp on account of improper cleaning!
APPROPRIATE SURFACE PREPARATION IS OF KEY IMPORTANCE
- Slight sanding of the surface improves the adhesion of the tape (use Scotch-Brite cloths or sanding cloth with 150-180 granulation).
- Before sanding, clean the surface with rubbing alcohol to prevent dirt from getting into the surface when sanding.
- After sanding, clean again (thoroughly).
- Note: sanding is not performed on glass, ceramics and porcelain
SURFACE CONTROL (SURFACE ENERGY VERIFICATION)
The value of surface energy determines the strength of adhesion of the adhesive tape to the surface. From this point of view, the surfaces are defined as friendly (undemanding) or unfriendly (demanding) for adhering (in between they are considered moderately demanding).
English abbreviations are used for each of these:
- HSE - High Energy Surface (friendly)
- MSE - Middle Energy Surface (medium friendly)
- LSE - Low Energy Surface (unfriendly)
There are several ways to determine surface energy:
- with a special measuring device;
- checking with drops;
- a very reliable and easy way, however, is to stick a sample of tape on the cleaned surface (follow the instructions for success!) and to check the adhesion after 48 hours.
PREPARING THE SURFACE
- HSE - High Surface Energy
- Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Light sanding with Scotch-Brite cloth or sanding cloth P 180.
- Thoroughly clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
MSE - Middle Surface Energy
- Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Light sanding with Scotch-Brite cloth or sanding cloth P 180.
- Thoroughly clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Coat the surface with EHB Cleaner.
LSE - Low Surface Energy
- Clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Light sanding with Scotch-Brite cloth or sanding cloth P 180.
- Thoroughly clean the surface with rubbing alcohol.
- Coat the surface with EHB Undercoating 3.
WORK TEMPERATURE
- The optimum application temperature is 20 to 35 °C.
- The minimum temperature is 10 °C.
- Special EHB tapes are available for work at lower temperatures.
SUFFICIENT PRESSURE
- When adhering, use a pressure of 2.5 kg/cm (using a roller or plate).
